Abstract

(3S)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline-3-carboxylic acid(THBC-3COOH) and tyrosine were isolated from the leaves of Allium tuberosum (Liliaceae). The first compound(THBC-3COOH) was synthesized from L-tryptophan and formaldehyde via a Pictet-Spengler reaction in 1936. But, to our best knowledge, this is a first example of the occurence from plants.
